Pure Methylcellulose Powder
Pure, Untreated Methylcellulose Powder
Purified Methylcellulose (MC) is a cellulose derivative bound to some of the hydroxyl groups of the glucopyranose monomers that form the backbone of the cellulose family.
MC is a water soluble, anionic polymer and is the most commonly used of the cellulosic groups. It is used because it has high viscosity, is non-toxic and is generally considered a hypoallergenic. MC produces smooth, colourless and transparent solutions.
Methyl Cellulose is famous with production companies and special fx artists for its versatility in making large quantities of blood fx. Combined with our superior FX colouring, our Purified Methylcellulose has been used by a number of horror and sci-fi movies during production - see additional pictures, with thanks to The Rizen.
Available in a range of weights, ideal for every application from making giant bubbles, to manufacturing beauty products, to large scale TV productions.
If you need maximum control over viscosity, colour, quantity and design then our range of Pure products are perfect for you!

Usage Suggestions
Culinary Uses:
MC has many uses in the kitchen. When added to sugar paste it improves elasticity and strength. The paste can then be rolled very thinly without cracking. It improves the drying time and final hardness of sugar paste, making modelling of intricate sugar flowers much easier!
MC is used in food under the E number, E466 as a viscosity modifier or thickener and to stabilise emulsions in various products including ice cream. It is used to make ice creams without churning mechanism or extreme low temperatures thereby eliminating the need of the conventional churners or salt ice mixes. MC is also used extensively in gluten free and reduced fat food products.
Non Food Uses:
It is a component of many non-food products, such as toothpaste, laxatives, diet pills, detergents, various paper products and textile sizing.
MC is used as a lubricant in artificial tears. MC is also used in ice packs to form a eutectic mixture resulting in a lower freezing point, and therefore more cooling capacity than ice. In veterinary medicine, MC is used in abdominal surgeries in large animals, particularly horses, to prevent the formation of bowel adhesion's.
